Pottery casserole dishes, plates and crockery look good placed on counter tops or in open cabinets. These add a country look to your kitchen. If you do not have any pottery pieces in your home you will be surprised at what you can pick up for pennies at thrift stores for some good pottery pieces. Displaying some of your cookbooks is also a good way of decorating your kitchen cheaply. You could have one open on a book stand on your counter top or have them arranged standing up in one group going graduating from tallest to smallest. The idea here is to look around your home and use items you already own to create a new look in your kitchen. If you have a few dollars to spare you can go look in some thrift stores for some cheap items that can give your kitchen a new look without it costing you much at all.
There really is no exact information on who invented the kitchen table. Some sources say that Egyptians were those who created the first table for the kitchen. It was said that they made platforms which would let them place their food away from the floor, although, these claims are unsubstantiated. Even though nobody exactly knows who invented it, we know that they also have their own stories as this is the most common place for family members to talk together and spend some time over a good meal. At some other times, family members may have different tasks to do but when they eat at the kitchen table, they simply enjoy their meal. The kitchen table is also a good place for children to do their homework.
To Distress Or Not To Distress? When it comes to installing stone kitchen counter tops, Granite tends to be the material of choice because it is so durable. Marble is much more likely to chip and break and it is more at risk form the day to day kitchen accidents like broken glasses and spilled food or wine. Granite is much more able to withstand this type of ongoing punishment and is far less likely to fall victim to staining like Marble is. Some people actually see this as positive thing in relation to marble. They like the aesthetic effect of a little bit of wear and tear on their counter tops to give a slightly vintage look to them, in such the same way as people often do with intentionally distressed clothing. Marble is quite often likened to a fine wine which gets better as it matures. One of the main benefits of Marble is that it is completely waterproof and will not suffer damage from steam or splashes from washing dishes. However, to really prolong its life the stone does need to be sealed by a professional. This needs to been repeated every so often to maintain the seal. The manufacturer should be able to offer advice about how often this needs to be carried out.
The kitchen is crowded. Technology has invaded the kitchen space. Today, a homeowner uses several kitchen appliances that were non-existent a few years ago. As a result, old kitchens have become crowded. If you find that the kitchen counter-top and the dining table is covered with kitchen appliances, dinner plates, glasses, cooking pots etc., start thinking of hiring a renovation contractor. If you hire an experienced contractor, he will able to suggest you with modern ideas for increasing space in the kitchen. Ask him to make optimum use of the free space by adding more cabinets in the kitchen.
