Cork, Bamboo or Recycled Flooring: When it comes to green kitchen tips, your choosing an eco friendly kitchen flooring can go a long way towards being green. Consider using a cork, bamboo or some other type of natural or recycled flooring product. There are a number of options out there, and most are very durable. The most readily available recycled flooring is a rubber flooring. These are made of 80 - 100% post consumer product including tires. Rubber floors are extremely durable and come in a variety of colors and styles. Cork and bamboo, while not recycled, both offer quickly renewable products that do not require deforestation of millions of trees to produce these types of floors. Both cork and bamboo are natural products as well.
The kitchen is crowded. Technology has invaded the kitchen space. Today, a homeowner uses several kitchen appliances that were non-existent a few years ago. As a result, old kitchens have become crowded. If you find that the kitchen counter-top and the dining table is covered with kitchen appliances, dinner plates, glasses, cooking pots etc., start thinking of hiring a renovation contractor. If you hire an experienced contractor, he will able to suggest you with modern ideas for increasing space in the kitchen. Ask him to make optimum use of the free space by adding more cabinets in the kitchen.
The kitchen space has undergone a revolution. Gone are the days when the kitchen was a place for work and everyone was entertained separately in the living room. Now kitchens are open planned and guests are being entertained on barstools at breakfast bars and half tables. The preparation of the meal has now become the entertainment with guests being asked to help out with simple tasks while refreshments and nibbles are consumed. Gone too are the days of spending solitary confinement in the kitchen. Kitchens have now become more communal with all the electronic entertainment making its transition from the living areas of the home. One of the most important pieces of entertainment has been the television set or commonly known as the kitchen TV. The television has now become more common place in the kitchen. Just think there is nothing worse than trying to cook a meal and missing out on the evening news or even worse, a cooking demonstration by Jamie. This is where a kitchen TV has found a place.
You certainly do not want to screw things up by getting yourself cut or singed. When it comes to knife safety, be sure to sharpen the blades to balance your handling. Dull knives may slip off from your hands and may get you injured in the process. In using a knife, do not just cut with the edge facing you. If it slips, the blade will surge towards you so pay attention to your grip and where the blade is pointing. Furthermore, never leave sharp tools wobbly inside your kitchen drawers. Broken glass also poses risks since they can be incredibly sharp and may cut you. Sweep broken shards off the floor and clean carefully. Being barefoot is a no-no when it comes to walking on floor surfaces that have broken fragments that can pierce your heels. Also, do not just throw it out in the garbage bag and be sure to pour the shards in an old newspaper before plunking it down the bin. To prevent this accident, make sure that you do not break your glass and wipe them dry after getting them in the dishwasher.
