You certainly do not want to screw things up by getting yourself cut or singed. When it comes to knife safety, be sure to sharpen the blades to balance your handling. Dull knives may slip off from your hands and may get you injured in the process. In using a knife, do not just cut with the edge facing you. If it slips, the blade will surge towards you so pay attention to your grip and where the blade is pointing. Furthermore, never leave sharp tools wobbly inside your kitchen drawers. Broken glass also poses risks since they can be incredibly sharp and may cut you. Sweep broken shards off the floor and clean carefully. Being barefoot is a no-no when it comes to walking on floor surfaces that have broken fragments that can pierce your heels. Also, do not just throw it out in the garbage bag and be sure to pour the shards in an old newspaper before plunking it down the bin. To prevent this accident, make sure that you do not break your glass and wipe them dry after getting them in the dishwasher.
Pottery casserole dishes, plates and crockery look good placed on counter tops or in open cabinets. These add a country look to your kitchen. If you do not have any pottery pieces in your home you will be surprised at what you can pick up for pennies at thrift stores for some good pottery pieces. Displaying some of your cookbooks is also a good way of decorating your kitchen cheaply. You could have one open on a book stand on your counter top or have them arranged standing up in one group going graduating from tallest to smallest. The idea here is to look around your home and use items you already own to create a new look in your kitchen. If you have a few dollars to spare you can go look in some thrift stores for some cheap items that can give your kitchen a new look without it costing you much at all.
